Understand the site

This part explains how the parts of the site fit together, without going into the detail of each screen. Understanding the overall philosophy of the system will help you use it more effectively. Start with the site philosophy: the design choices that explain why the site looks the way it does.

What Kadampa Center Manager does

Kadampa Center Manager turns WordPress into a true Kadampa meditation centre manager, a kind of Kadampa edition of WordPress. It adds to WordPress:

  • the calendar: events, their sessions, and everything that displays them on the site (calendar, event pages, "Upcoming" blocks);
  • the site menu, the sliding menu of the public pages;
  • the site settings: colours, the centre's general information, weekly timetable;
  • the Google reviews of the centre, copied onto the site;
  • a few layout tools: layout templates, home image, private pages…

In the admin, these features appear as menus on the left of the screen: Events, Menu, Layout, Settings, etc.

The features

Kadampa Center Manager brings together several features, each with its own menus and screens.

Feature What it provides
Events Events, activities, teachers and venues, recurring sessions and the public calendar.
"Upcoming" blocks The list of the next sessions, to place on a page.
Event pages The layout of each event's page, with its prices (Pricing) and its Timetables.
Teachers The lists and portraits of teachers shown on the pages.
Weekly timetable The table of a typical week of classes.
Site menu The sliding menu of the public pages.
Layout The layout templates (header, footer…) and the centre's general information.
Colours A single colour palette for the whole site (activities, pages, posts…): change a colour in the palette and it changes everywhere at once.
Home image The large image on the home page.
Blog How posts and their categories are presented.
Private pages Pages that can only be reached through a secret link, for a set period (for example to give access to streaming links to people who have taken a subscription with the centre).
Global elements Content written once by the reference centre for the language (Paris for French), then reused, updates included, by the other centres (for example the page presenting the New Kadampa Tradition).
