Create a recurring event

A recurring event comes back regularly: a meditation class on Tuesday evenings, a practice every Sunday morning. You create it only once; the site then rolls out all its sessions. For an event that only takes place on a specific date, see Create a one-off event.

Before you start, check that the activity, the venue and the teacher already exist.

Steps

  1. In the Events menu, click Add new.
  2. Enter the title (for example "Tuesday evening meditation"), then, in Event Details, choose the Activity, the Teacher and the Venue.
  3. In the Sessions calendar, click Add a session.
  4. In the window:
    • Start date and End date: the date of the first session (the same for both if the session only lasts one day);
    • Time: the start time, then the end time;
    • Repeat: choose the rhythm (Every day, Every week, Every 2 weeks, Every month or Every year);
    • Days (for a weekly repeat): tick the day or days of the week;
    • Until: the date of the last possible session.
  5. Click Save: all the sessions appear in the calendar.
  6. Write the description, then click Publish.

Tick the day of the start date

If you tick Days, include the day of the start date: otherwise the first session is skipped. With no ticks at all, the session repeats on the same day of the week as the start date.

With no end date

If you leave Until empty, the site plans the sessions for about two years from today, and the calendar says so: "No recurrence end date: sessions are generated through …".

To extend them later, simply update the event: click Update without changing anything, and the site pushes the limit back.

Several times in the same event

A class may take place "on Tuesdays at 7 pm and on Saturdays at 10 am". Rather than creating two events:

  1. Create the main session (for example Tuesday at 7 pm).
  2. In the When panel, click Add another time and fill in the second time (Saturday, 10 am).

Each time appears in the When panel, with the edit and delete links, and has its own colour in the calendar.

Change the rhythm later

In the When panel, click edit next to the time, change the Repeat, the Days or the Until date, then Save and Update the event.

Sessions already changed individually keep their setting

A session cancelled or moved by hand stays as it is. To bring it back to the usual time, see Cancel or move a session.

Check the result

Open the public calendar: the sessions appear every week (or at the chosen rhythm), at the right time, up to the end date. Click one of them: the event page opens, with the next session announced.

If it does not work

  • A session is missing at the start: the day of the start date is not ticked in Days.
  • A red message appears in the window: a date or a time is inconsistent (end before start, end of repeat before the end of the event). Correct it: nothing is saved while the message is there.
  • The class stops when it should carry on: change the Until date (see above), or empty it.
