Create a one-off event

A one-off event takes place on a specific date: a talk, an open day, an evening, a retreat weekend. For a class that comes back every week, see Create a recurring event instead.

Before you start, check that the event's activity, venue and teacher already exist (see Activities and venues and Teachers). If not, create them first.

Steps

  1. In the Events menu, click Add new at the top of the list.
  2. Enter the title: the full name of the event, as it will appear on its page.
  3. In the Event Details box:
    • choose the Activity (required);
    • tick the Teacher or teachers;
    • tick the Venue or venues (required), for example "online" for a remote event;
    • add the Event image if needed.
  4. In the Sessions calendar, click Add a session (or click the day you want directly in the calendar). A window opens:
    • Start date: the day of the event;
    • End date: the same day, or the last day for an event over several days;
    • Time: the start time, then the end time;
    • Repeat: leave it on Never (Not a recurring event).
  5. Click Save in the window: the session appears in the calendar.
  6. Write the description: the Simple description field is enough for a short text.
  7. Click Publish.

Nothing is saved before \"Publish\"

The dates entered in the sessions calendar are only taken into account when you click Publish (or Update).

Special cases

I want… I do this…
An all-day event (open day, day of practice) In the session window, tick All day: no time will be shown.
An event over several days (weekend, retreat) Put the first day as Start date and the last day as End date.
An event that takes place on site and online Tick both venues in Event Details.
A title too long for the calendar box Fill in Short name for calendar in Other options.
A specific price and timetable on the page Set Pricing and Timetable in Other options (see Pricing and Timetables).

Check the result

  1. Open the site's public calendar: the event appears on its date, in the colour of its activity.
  2. Click it: its page opens, with the title, the image, the teacher, the venue and the description.
  3. If an "Upcoming" block lists this activity, the event appears there too (it is refreshed straight away).

If the event does not appear

  • It is still a draft: click Publish.
  • It has no session: the sessions calendar is empty.
  • It has no activity: choose one.
  • Your browser is showing the old page: reload with Ctrl + F5 (on a Mac: Cmd + Shift + R).
